Exporting an AI edit to Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve
Most AI video editors can hand a rough cut to a professional editor as a project file, but what carries over varies. octuedit exports FCPXML 1.10 for Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro XML, a DaVinci bundle with media and captions, and SRT or WebVTT captions; the hand-off keeps cuts, clip order, tracks, speed, volume, chapter markers and chosen multicam angles, but not transforms, grades, keyframes, transitions or caption styling. Descript, ChatCut, Eddie AI, Ponder and Palmier Pro also export to Final Cut Pro, while OpusClip exports to Premiere Pro and Resolve only.
Can I start an edit with AI and finish it in Final Cut Pro or Premiere?
Yes. Use the AI editor for the slow part, cutting pauses, picking takes and assembling the story, then finish color, effects and sound in a professional editor. octuedit, an AI video editor for Mac, exports FCPXML 1.10 for Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro XML, and a DaVinci bundle with media and captions. The hand-off keeps the cut itself: clip order, tracks, speed, volume, chapter markers and the multicam angles you chose. Reframes, crops, color grades, keyframes, transitions and caption styling don't carry over, so it works best to hand off before you style the edit, and to bring captions across as SRT or WebVTT files. The clips link to your original media on your Mac. Descript, ChatCut, Eddie AI, Ponder and Palmier Pro also export a timeline Final Cut Pro can import, while OpusClip lists Premiere Pro and Resolve only. octuedit costs $99 once.

How do you hand an octuedit edit to Final Cut Pro?
It takes one export and one import. Choose the Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve option in octuedit's Export dialog, add an SRT or WebVTT file if you want captions, import the XML in the other editor so the clips link to your original media, then rebuild anything that doesn't carry over.
- Open the Export dialog in octuedit and choose the Final Cut Pro (FCPXML), Premiere Pro (XML) or DaVinci Resolve option.
- Export captions as SRT or WebVTT too if you want them in the other editor.
- In Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or Resolve, import the XML file; the clips link to your original media on your Mac.
- Rebuild what doesn't carry over (reframes, grades, transitions, caption styles) in the editor you finish in.
When does a hand-off make sense?
Use the AI editor for the slow part, cutting pauses, picking takes and assembling the story, then finish color, effects and sound in the professional editor. Because transforms and grades don't carry over, it works best to hand off before you style the edit, not after.
