About octuedit
Updated 27 October 2026 · By Shivank Goura, co-founder of octuedit
octuedit is an AI video editor for Mac. You drop in your footage, describe the edit in plain words, and your own Claude Code or Codex cuts it on a real timeline you can still adjust by hand. It costs $99 once and runs on macOS 13 or later, on Apple silicon and Intel. It is made by Octupie Technologies Private Limited, a small startup in Tamil Nadu, India.
Who makes octuedit?

octuedit is built by the two co-founders of Octupie. Shivank Goura is co-founder and CEO; he works on the product, how the editing behaves and everything you read on this site. Jayaditya V S is co-founder and CTO and builds the app with him. We're both undergraduates at IIT Madras, Shivank in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and Jayaditya in Materials Engineering, and we've worked on Octupie full time since April 2026.
Our other product, Octupie, is an AI agent for creators and agencies that does niche research and scriptwriting. It doesn't film or edit, so we spend our days with people who publish video every week and know exactly where their hours go. Octupie is a Microsoft for Startups partner.
Why did we build octuedit?
Because we needed it ourselves. We make a lot of video for Octupie: reels, demos, explainers and talking head clips. Editing them was the slow part of every week, and hiring video editors was expensive for a two person startup. AI could already read a transcript and understand what was said, so we wanted the edit itself to work the same way: say what you want, watch it happen on a real timeline, and stay in control of every cut.
We started writing octuedit on 5 October 2026 and shipped 100 updates in its first three weeks. Updates arrive inside the app on their own, with no new purchase.
Do we use octuedit ourselves?
Yes. We edit our own videos in octuedit. When something is slow or clumsy for us, it goes on the list for the next update, which is how most of its features started.
What do we believe about editing software?
Your footage should stay on your computer. octuedit keeps clips, projects and exports on your Mac and transcribes them there; no octuedit server ever receives your footage, and the app sends us anonymous step diagnostics and a record of each agent edit (the request, the agent's steps and the timeline, never media) so the agent learns to edit better, both of which you can turn off in Settings > Privacy. You shouldn't pay twice for AI, so octuedit runs on the Claude Code or Codex account you already have instead of selling credits. And a tool you use every day should be yours, so octuedit is $99 once with updates included, the way Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve Studio are sold, with a full refund within 14 days if it isn't for you.
Is octuedit safe to install?
Yes. octuedit is signed with Octupie's Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so the first time you open it, macOS asks only the usual question about an app downloaded from the internet. Payments go through Paddle, our merchant of record, which handles checkout, tax and refunds. After you pay, the download link and your licence key come by email.
How do we write our comparisons?
Our comparison pages take every competitor fact from that company's own public website, link the source and show when we checked it. Each page also says when the other tool is the better choice. We re-checked ChatCut, Ponder and DaVinci Resolve Studio prices on 26 October 2026 and updated every page that mentioned them. If something is out of date or wrong, email us and we'll correct it. More on our method: how we write and check.
