What is octuedit, and who makes it?
octuedit is an AI video editor for Mac, made by Octupie Technologies in India. You drop in your footage and describe the edit in plain words, and your own Claude Code or Codex cuts it on a real timeline that you can still adjust by hand. It is built for podcasts, talking head videos, explainers, tutorials and short form clips, and costs $99 once.
Is octuedit the same as OctaEdit or OctoEdit?
No. octuedit (spelled o, c, t, u, edit) is the AI video editor for Mac at octuedit.com. OctaEdit is an unrelated editor and librarian for the Elektron Octatrack sampler, and the names are only similar by chance.
Does octuedit work with my existing Claude subscription?
Yes. octuedit has no account of its own. The editing runs on the Claude Code that is signed in on your Mac, so it uses your own Claude plan, the same as any other Claude Code session. octuedit doesn't sell AI credits or add a second AI bill. If Claude Code isn't set up yet, octuedit walks you through signing in.
Can I use Codex instead of Claude Code?
Yes, one of them is enough. The chat inside octuedit runs on Claude Code, and Codex can edit the same project from Terminal using your own OpenAI account. Either way the edits land on the same timeline.
How do I install octuedit on my Mac?
Buy it on this site for $99 and the download link comes by email. It comes as a disk image (.dmg) with separate builds for Apple silicon (M1 and later) and Intel Macs. Open the .dmg, drag octuedit into Applications and open it. The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so the first open shows only the usual macOS question about an app downloaded from the internet; click Open. Then add the licence key from your order page or email, let the speech model download once, and sign in to Claude Code if you haven't already. It needs macOS 13 Ventura or later.
Is octuedit cheaper than Descript or Adobe Premiere Pro?
Yes, over any period longer than a few months. octuedit is $99 once. Descript's paid plans are $16 to $65 a month per person and Premiere Pro is $22.99 a month on an annual plan, so a year of either costs more than octuedit does for good. octuedit does need your own Claude Code or Codex plan, billed separately by Anthropic or OpenAI. More detail.
How does octuedit compare to Descript for podcast editing?
Descript edits podcasts by editing the transcript, uploads your media to its cloud and is billed per person every month. octuedit lets you describe the whole edit, such as removing pauses and filler words, adding captions and making vertical clips, then builds it on a timeline while footage stays on your Mac. octuedit is $99 once. More detail.
Can octuedit edit multicam podcasts?
Yes. Give it two or more camera files of the same conversation, plus a separate audio recorder if you used one, and it syncs them by their sound, even when a camera clock drifts over a long recording. It then cuts to whoever is talking, or you pick each angle by hand, and exports and Premiere, Final Cut and DaVinci project files keep the chosen angles. It can also follow the speaker in a single wide shot.
Where does my footage go when I edit with octuedit?
It stays on your Mac. Clips, projects and exports stay on your Mac, and transcription runs on your Mac too; no octuedit server ever receives your footage. The app sends us anonymous step diagnostics and a record of each agent edit (your request, the agent's steps and the timeline before and after, never media) so the agent learns to edit better; both are on by default and each switches off in Settings > Privacy. Your AI agent, under your own Claude or OpenAI account, receives what you ask and its work on the project, such as file names and the transcript lines it reads. By default a few still frames per clip are also sent so search can find what's on screen, and you can switch that off.
Does octuedit run on Intel Macs?
Yes. It runs on any Mac on macOS 13 Ventura or later, Apple silicon or Intel. Apple silicon is the fastest, with hardware encoding for export and GPU transcription. You pick the Apple silicon or Intel disk image on the download page; if you're not sure which Mac you have, Apple menu, About This Mac, Chip tells you.
Can I fix the AI's edit myself?
Always. The agent builds a normal timeline of clips, captions and audio. You can drag, trim and split like in any editor, and undo covers the agent's changes too.
Which formats and aspect ratios can octuedit export?
MP4, MOV (ProRes) and WebM in 1080p or 4K, and GIF, in 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5, plus SRT and WebVTT captions, YouTube chapter lists and project files for Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve, so you can finish an edit in another editor.
Is there a refund if octuedit isn't for me?
Yes. You can ask for a full refund within 14 days of purchase. Payments and refunds are handled by our merchant of record, Paddle. More detail.
