Video editors that work with Claude Code and Codex

Several video editors now let Claude Code or Codex do the editing. octuedit runs directly on the Claude Code (or Codex) signed in on your Mac, so the AI uses your own plan and octuedit sells no credits. Palmier Pro exposes a local MCP server to Claude, Codex or Cursor and its editor is free. ChatCut offers Claude Code and Codex plugins plus a desktop app; Cardboard's Mac app connects to your paid Claude or ChatGPT plan; Eddie AI works inside Claude and ChatGPT through MCP. They differ in which Macs they support, where footage goes and what you pay.

Which AI video editor can use my own Claude Code account?

octuedit is a Mac video editor built to run on the Claude Code you already have. The chat inside the app runs on your own signed-in Claude Code, so editing uses your existing plan and octuedit sells no AI credits. You describe the edit, for example "cut the pauses, add bold captions and make a vertical version", and Claude Code reads the transcript and project, then makes the cuts on a real multi-track timeline while you watch. Codex works too, editing the same project from Terminal, and one of the two is enough. Transcription, playback, manual editing and export run on your Mac. Your agent receives your requests and its work on the project, plus a few still frames per clip for visual search, which you can switch off in Settings. ChatCut, Palmier Pro and Cardboard's Mac app also connect to Claude Code; octuedit is the one sold once, for $99, with no plan of its own to pay for.

Is there an agentic video editor for Mac that edits from a text prompt?

Yes, several. An agentic video editor takes a plain text request, such as "cut the pauses, add captions and make a vertical version", and an AI agent makes the edit on a real timeline you can still change by hand. octuedit, which we make, is a native Mac app for macOS 13 or later on Apple silicon and Intel, where your own Claude Code or Codex does the editing; footage stays on your Mac and it costs $99 once. Cardboard has a browser editor and a Mac app for Apple silicon, on monthly plans from $8 to $175. ChatCut works on the web, Mac and Windows and from Claude Code and Codex, from $21 a month billed annually. Palmier Pro is a free editor for macOS 26 that Claude, Codex or Cursor drives. Eddie AI focuses on interview rough cuts and is sold as credit packs. Pick by your Mac, where you want footage kept and how you want to pay.

How do you set up octuedit with Claude Code?

It takes a few minutes on any Mac running macOS 13 Ventura or later, Apple silicon or Intel.

  1. Buy octuedit for $99 and download it from the link in your email, choosing the Apple silicon or Intel build.
  2. Open it. The first launch downloads the speech model once and walks you through signing in to Claude Code if it isn't set up yet.
  3. Create a project and drop in your footage; octuedit transcribes it on your Mac.
  4. Type the edit in the chat, such as "cut the pauses, add bold captions and make a 60 second vertical version".
  5. Watch the cuts land on the timeline, then ask for changes in words or adjust them by hand.
  6. Export MP4, MOV or WebM, or send the project to Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.

Can I edit videos with Codex?

Yes. Codex can edit video when it's connected to an editor with a real timeline, and octuedit is one: open your project in octuedit on your Mac, then ask Codex in Terminal for the edit you want, such as "remove filler words and add captions". Codex makes the changes on octuedit's multi-track timeline, where you can see them, adjust them by hand and undo them. You don't need Claude Code as well; one of the two is enough, and the chat panel inside the app is the Claude Code route. Footage, transcription and export stay on your Mac, and the AI usage runs on your own OpenAI plan. octuedit costs $99 once and runs on macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon and Intel. ChatCut and Palmier Pro also accept Codex. On its own, Codex can write ffmpeg commands, but that gives you a rendered file rather than a timeline you can tweak.

How does each editor work with Claude Code or Codex?

Five editors connect to an AI agent in different ways. octuedit runs on the Claude Code or Codex already signed in on your Mac and sells no credits. Palmier Pro and Eddie AI connect through MCP, Cardboard's Mac app uses your paid Claude or ChatGPT plan, and ChatCut uses plugins tied to a ChatCut account with its own credits.

Which editor should you choose for your agent?

Choose by your Mac and what you want the agent to do. On an Intel Mac or macOS 13 to 15, with footage kept local and a one time price, octuedit fits. On macOS 26, Palmier Pro is a free option. For AI generated media pick Palmier Pro, ChatCut or Cardboard, and for long interview rough cuts, Eddie AI.

  • On an Intel Mac, or on macOS 13 to 15, and wanting footage kept local with a one time price: octuedit. ChatCut and Eddie AI also run on Intel Macs.
  • On macOS 26 and wanting a free editor: Palmier Pro.
  • Wanting AI generated video and images in the same editor: Palmier Pro, ChatCut or Cardboard.
  • Cutting long interviews into rough cuts from inside Claude or ChatGPT: Eddie AI.

Why edit with your own agent at all?

If you already pay for Claude or ChatGPT, editors that run on your plan avoid a second AI bill and let you use the same agent you already know. The trade off is that the agent's usage counts against your plan's limits, and the quality of the edit depends on the agent as well as the editor.
