Hinglish captions for Reels, Shorts and YouTube

octuedit is an AI video editor for Mac that captions Hindi speech as Hinglish: Hindi written in English letters the way creators type it, with the English words left as English. It does not translate your video into English and it does not write Devanagari. octuedit transcribes on your Mac with a time for every word, so captions can highlight each word as you say it, in any of 18 styles, and stay clear of the Reels and Shorts buttons. It also flags lines it was unsure of, so you can listen again and fix them, and your fix carries into the captions. Hindi spellings vary from speaker to speaker, so read the captions once before you post. octuedit runs on your own Claude Code or Codex account and costs $99 once. Captions can also be saved as SRT files.

What can you ask for when captioning Hinglish?

  1. “Add bold Hinglish captions that highlight each word as I say it”Transcribes the Hindi and English mix on your Mac and lays out word by word captions in the style you name.
  2. “Fix the caption at 0:14, I said "matlab" not "matlub"”Corrects that line by hand or by request, and the caption follows. Lock it so a later rebuild keeps your spelling.

  4. “Translate these captions to English and keep the timing”Your Claude agent translates every caption card and keeps each card's timing.
  5. “Export an SRT of the captions for YouTube”Saves SRT or WebVTT files from the same word timing, alongside the burned in version.

How does octuedit caption Hindi and English in one video?

The speech model octuedit uses has no Hinglish setting. Asked for English it writes Hindi as nonsense English, and asked for Hindi it writes Devanagari, English words included. octuedit listens for Hindi mixed into the speech, and when it finds it, writes the Hindi in English letters with the English words left as English, the way Indian creators type it: main, mein, hai, hain, nahi, kya, matlab. Everything runs on your Mac and every word keeps its own time.

Captions are then built from those times in one of 18 styles. They can highlight the spoken word, reveal words as they are said, or show one word at a time, and they keep clear of the Reels, TikTok and Shorts buttons. Lines the transcription was unsure of are flagged. octuedit can listen to a flagged line again and show you both readings, and you pick the one that fits, or type your own.

Where does Hinglish captioning stop?

  • No spelling is the one right spelling for Hindi in English letters, and a speech model gets some words wrong. Check slang, names and numbers before you post.
  • Filler word removal knows English fillers such as um and uh. It does not remove Hindi fillers, but pauses and repeated phrases are cut in any language.
  • Noisy rooms and heavy overlap between speakers lower accuracy, as with any speech model.
  • Captions are written in Hinglish. They are not translated unless you ask for a translation.
