A video editor for course creators and coaches

octuedit is an AI video editor for Mac, and it fits course creators and coaches who record a lot of talking head and screen footage and don't want to become editors. Record the lesson, then describe the edit: cut the false starts and long pauses, keep the best take of each point, zoom in on the screen when you demonstrate something, and add a title card for each module and captions throughout. octuedit transcribes on your Mac, so lesson footage and client sessions stay with you, and the result is a normal timeline you can change by hand. It runs on your own Claude Code or Codex account and costs $99 once, so a growing course library doesn't come with a monthly editing bill. You still review each lesson; it gets you to a clean first cut quickly, not a finished course unattended.

What can a course creator ask octuedit to do?

  1. “Cut my false starts and keep the best take of each point”Finds lines said more than once, keeps the cleanest take and removes stumbles and long pauses.
  2. “Zoom in on the part of the screen I'm talking about”Pushes in on whatever changes in a screen recording, read from the on-screen text, as keyframes you can adjust.
  3. “Put my face in a small circle in the corner over the screen recording”Builds the webcam bubble layout and keeps zooms clear of it.
  4. “Add a title card for each module and captions for every lesson”Adds motion titles and captions in one style across the lesson.
  5. “Split this 40 minute recording into one video per section”Suggests chapters where the topic changes, cuts each as its own clip on request, and exports a chapter list.
  6. “Make a 30 second vertical teaser of the best idea in lesson two”Finds the moment, reframes it to 9:16 and captions it for Reels or Shorts.

How does octuedit fit a course recording workflow?

Record the way you already do: a camera, a screen recording, a separate microphone or all three. Import the files and octuedit transcribes them on your Mac and indexes what is said and what is on screen. Then you ask for edits by what you said, such as "remove the part where I lost my train of thought before the pricing slide", instead of scrubbing for timecodes.

Cleanup removes long pauses, stutters and repeated takes at a strength you choose, and a voiceover recorded separately can be lined up with the screen by sound. Chapters, title cards and captions go on the same timeline, so one pass per lesson gives you something to review. Export 16:9 for your course platform and a vertical teaser for social from the same edit.

What doesn't octuedit do for course creators?

  • It edits video. It doesn't host lessons, build quizzes or run a course platform.
  • Accuracy of transcripts and captions depends on audio quality and accents, so check names, numbers and technical terms.
  • 4K exports are sharp only when the recording itself is 4K.
  • You need your own Claude Code or Codex account, which has its own cost.

Questions

What is the best video editor for online course creators?

It depends how you work. For describing the edit and getting a first cut fast on a Mac, octuedit at $99 once. For transcript editing with team projects, Descript. For hand editing, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve.

Can I edit course videos without learning video editing?

Yes for the common work: cutting mistakes, adding zooms, titles and captions. You describe what you want and review the result on a timeline, which you can still adjust by hand.

Does octuedit add captions to course videos?

Yes. Captions are transcribed on your Mac in 18 styles, and you can export SRT or WebVTT files to upload where your platform accepts them.

Will my course footage be uploaded anywhere?

No. Clips, projects and exports stay on your Mac and transcription runs locally. Your own AI agent receives your requests and its work on the project, plus a few frames per clip unless you switch that off in Settings.

Can one recording become several lessons?

Yes. Ask for chapters and octuedit suggests where the topic changes. You can have each chapter cut as its own clip.
